This NEXUS standard application provides a Voice-Mail service (Centralized Answer Phone). On receiving an incoming call, where the number called is identified as associated with the "Voice-Mail" application, the system sends the calling party a greeting message, such as for example: "You are connected to the answering machine of number xxxxxxxx". Please leave a message after the tone" It enables a message to be recorded and, after expiry of the maximum time available, it sends a farewell message asking the caller to hang up. Messages left are archived in the mailbox of the subscriber user, who will be able to get them by means of a special short number. During the playback procedure, the messages available are preceded by information indicating date and time the message was left at. The usual message playback and delete functions are available. The application also allows for a different presentation message depending on the reason why the call was diverted to the answering machine service (engaged or no answer). Obviously, for this to be possible, the exchange housing the NEXUS system must inform it of this state by using a different number to access it (for example, by using extra-decades codes). NEXUS can also be arranged to make calls notifying on presence/absence in the mailbox of messages that have not been listened to. The notification call may be suitably characterized to instruct the host exchange to activate appropriate notification procedures (for example, by altering the exchange tone or by issuing a spoken message in its place); or it may be made simply at regular intervals and directly to the telephone number of the subscriber: when the call is answered, the system will inform the user of the number of messages present and will present the playback menu. The presentation message may be personalized by the subscriber, by means of a suitable item in the playback menu. The NEXUS application is also suitable for the provision of ‘Virtual’ telephone mailboxes (consisting in assigning a subscriber user a telephone number, which is that of the voice mailbox, even though this subscriber does not have a fixed or mobile terminal).
